Ricky Starks: I’m Replacing Mark Henry On Commentary For AEW Rampage (Updated)

Ricky Starks is apparently replacing Mark Henry on the commentary team for AEW Rampage.

Henry was announced as part of the broadcast team ahead of the show’s first episode. But while Henry remained part of the broadcast as an interviewer on the September 17 episode, Starks filled in for him on commentary. Based on the FTW Champion’s comments in an interview with WrestleTalk, it seems like this change isn’t a one-off, as he’ll be joining the team full-time.

“I am definitely proud of AEW, the work that I’ve done in AEW and the work that I continue to do,” said Starks. “[And the fact that, I think so much that they appreciate me that they made me a permanent commentator for Rampage, replacing Mark, I love that fact.

“I love the fact that the work that I’ve done with Sting and Darby and all of these things in such a small time frame will last one forever. So yeah, I want more, though. I really do. I really want to push myself more and really explore the depths of my talent and get out of my comfort zone.”

Starks remains an active competitor; he currently holds the FTW Championship, and it seems likely that he’ll eventually face the former champion, Brian Cage for the title at some point soon.

Update: Josh Nason of the Wrestling Observer noted that AEW will utilize a rotation of commentators for the Rampage team. Details about this arrangement are currently unknown, but fans can expect to see some new faces on the show’s broadcast team moving forward.
