Nitro Girl Chae Marsh Relives Favorite WCW Memories, Shares Advice From DDP That Helped Her New Business

The WCW Nitro Girls were a memorable part of WCW in the 1990s, and Chae Marsh says the relationships she built during her career resulted in a lifelong bond that translated to her latest venture.

Former Nitro Girl Chae Marsh spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about her new “Ring Along” system and how she got some help with her business from Diamond Dallas Page, who she initially met in WCW through working with his then-wife, Kimberly. Chae spoke about DDP’s experience on Shark Tank and how he gave her some valuable advice when she was launching her new product, adding that it helped her see things in a new light.

“Page probably gave me the best advice. When you’re starting a business, you’re constantly second-guessing yourself, there’s mornings when I wake up and wish that I could erase everyone’s minds and I want to crawl into a hole and it’s a lot of pressure. Sometimes it’s human nature to want a quick fix or to take that fast lane, that fast track,” she explained, “and ‘Shark Tank’ for me is a great avenue for that. The sharks there, it’s a matter of they already have that pipeline established and you just want to jump in their pipeline and next thing you know, you’re in the stores.

“But the advice Page gave me, it was much deeper. He just kind of reminded me that I don’t need anybody and what I needed was to trust in myself and in my journey,” Chae said, “and the best way to trust myself, is to put myself in tough situations, vulnerable situations and live through it and come out on the other end successfully. That’s one way to trust yourself and that’s kind of what Page said, he said ‘that [Shark Tank] would be great but you can do this on your own.’ It’s one of those lessons that’s really just lifelong, that you can tap into for the duration of your life even.”

Despite going their separate ways after WCW was bought by WWE in 2001, Chae said the bond between the troupe is still a strong one. Some of the girls have reunited at signings over the years, and Chae said the thing she remembers the most is the friendship and the experiences they all had together.

“It’s the lifelong friendship and support system that we took away, that still exists 20 years later. Obviously, everyone’s busy being successful, because they really are individually but we’re always there for each other, we may not check in as often as we want to,” Chae noted, “but whenever something great happens, we’re there to cheer them on and when something unfortunate happens, we’re there to help them through it. Tie all of our life experiences with it, because when we do come together, we have so many fun memories to tap into that we never run out of things to talk about and we never have run out of things to laugh about. It’s all those years of traveling day in and day out, it’s just a lifelong blessing that we took away from it.”

Asked about her favorite memory or match from WCW, Chae, an Atlanta native, said the July 6, 1998 episode of Monday Nitro stood out because it was a huge spectacle that she got to share with her peers and family.

“We had over 40,000 people while being at home and having our friends and family there,” Chae said. “It was a huge showcase and that was the biggest memory for me.”
