Edge: ‘I Would Love To Share The Ring With Sami Zayn’

Due to a recent beatdown at hands of Seth RollinsEdge probably won’t be competing in a WWE ring again anytime soon. But when he returns, he wants to continue crossing names of the list of dream matches the WWE Hall of Famer never got to have during his forced retirement.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Edge specifically named Sami Zayn, a fellow Canadian, as someone he’d “love to face.” He pitched the possibility of having the match in Toronto, where they could wage war representing their respective hockey fandoms.

“I would love to share the ring with Sami Zayn,” said Edge. “And I would love to do it in Toronto. We’d keep it real simple. He can come out in his Habs jersey, I’ll come out in my Leafs jersey, and we’ll go from there.”

“The Rated-R Superstar” hen praised Zayn’s skills on the microphone and noted that he often incorporates truth into his promos, which has produced “incredible” work.

“There’s a key to Sami’s success,” said Edge. “There is an element of truth to all his promos. As a heel, you have to have that nugget of truth. If you have it, you can push everything else forward. So his promos feel much more real. He’s doing incredible work.”

“The crowd just knows to boo this guy,” said Edge. “That’s to his credit. His promos, his character work—Sami is incredible. He’s gone from El Generico, then this plucky babyface with checkered tights and Mighty Mighty Bosstones–type music. Now he looks like some kind of dictator. I really dig it. Thinking about it, I can’t wait for it to happen.”
