AEW star Jon Moxley is looking forward to the company’s debut in his hometown, Cincinnati this week on AEW Dynamite, and the promotion’s arrival in “The Queen City” is something that Moxley pushed for as far back as the beginning of 2020.
In an interview with Alex Harrison of The Cincinnati Enquirer, the former AEW World Champion explained how he “bugged the s–t” out of the concerned parties as part of his mission to bring AEW to the city.
“I bugged the s–t out of them,” said Moxley. “I text them all the time. I was doing it before the pandemic about a year ago. I was telling them, ‘We’ve got to go to Cincinnati. I’m telling you we’d do so good there.’ I was up their a– for months.”
Harrison noted that Cincinnati has been in somewhat of a dry spell, as it hasn’t hosted a pay-per-view show since 2011, and WWE hasn’t held one in the city since 2006. In the interview, Moxley expressed his belief that Cincinnati could match New York, Chicago and Philadelphia as a renowned host for wrestling shows.
“You could really make this a marquee stop on the wrestling loop along with places like New York, Chicago and Philadelphi,” said Moxley. “Cincinnati can be right there with those.”
Moxley has personally aimed to show this argument to AEW, and everyone else, and he noted that tonight’s show is worthy of a pay-per-view to match the special occasion of this debut outing.
“I’ve taken it as a personal mission to show AEW and the world how good of a market this can be and how good the fans are here,” Moxley said.
“This is a pay-per-view caliber card and that’s by design,” Moxley said. “We want Cincinnati to be one of our homes.”
