Jon Moxley: The Hits Keep Coming, Now’s The Time For Fans To ‘Jump On Board’ With AEW

Going back to your old stomping grounds is always a special time.

That will be the case for AEW star Jon Moxley this week on Dynamite when the company debuts in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Ahead of the show, the former AEW World Champion appeared on Cincy 360 with Tony Pike & Rick Ucchino to discuss his return to Cincinnati. He compared the energy he gets from coming home to Superman getting recharged by the son.

“I don’t even remember the last time I wrestled here…it would’ve been like 2018,” said Moxley. “You always get that special energy, it’s kind of like Superman going close to the sun and getting his energy back when you’re in your hometown. I just think it’s going to be a wild atmosphere, and you got to be there live to experience it.”

Moxley then described how AEW has a special relationship with its fans, as he stated that the viewers aren’t simply customers to the company. The former AEW World Champion noted that the company brings wrestlers and fans together through a genuine shared love of wrestling. He then noted that with AEW’s growing momentum, now’s the time to “jump on board” for anyone who wants to.

“AEW has a great relationship with the audience,” said Moxley. “They know we’re not out there trying to swerve them and make a buck off them, they’re not just dollar signs to us, they’re fans and we’re fans. I just feel like basically the 10,000 people that’ll be out there tonight and the however many people were at All Out the other night, I feel like we would all still be here even if none of us were getting paid. We would all just be here for the love and the passion of it. It’s kind of a gathering of professional wrestling fans, it’s getting cool.

“A lot of fans are like ‘oh, you watch wrestling?’, and if you don’t get it, you just don’t get it. Now, more people are getting it and it’s hotter than it’s ever been, and you can feel it getting hotter especially with us coming off of this pay-per-view we had, it might’ve been one of the best wrestling pay-per-views ever, definitely in the last decade though. The hits just keep on coming, and once that momentum starts going, it’s one of those things. If you want to jump on board with AEW, now’s the time.”

Moxley then previewed his bout with New Japan Pro-Wrestling legend Minoru Suzuki, which will be one of the featured matches on Wednesday night’s show. He described how this contest will brutally violent before he noted that AEW lets wrestlers with diverse styles showcase their skills across the board in a way that highlights the range of the talented roster.

“That’s the cool thing, all of the styles in AEW, things have evolved like with the stuff you saw in that cage match over the weekend, things have evolved where the athleticism is just insane,” said Moxley. “The acrobatics these athletes can do, like seeing Rey Fenix in person right walk the ropes and triple flip…or whatever the hell people are doing, it’s crazy stuff. If you’re thinking the last time you watched wrestling that it was a bunch of hokey crap, then you’re not up-to-date on the current landscape. So you got to get down to Fifth Third Arena or at least check it out on TNT on Wednesday nights.”

Wrestlezone will have complete coverage of tonight’s post-All Out edition of AEW Dynamite which emanates from the Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
