Damian Priest Pins Drew McIntyre In Triple Threat Bout, Retains United States Championship

Damian Priest defied the odds and picked up a huge win when he successfully defended the WWE United States Championship against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre on WWE RAW.

Priest kicked off this week’s episode of WWE RAW with an open challenge for his United States Championship.

Sheaus responded to the challenge and mockingly praised Priest, the man who defeated him for the gold at WWE SummerSlam. He vowed to take the title back, but Drew McIntyre interrupted the confrontation by saying the crowd deserves something new. He noted how he has never been United States Champion, so he challenged Priest to a match. Before the champion could officially respond, WWE Champion Bobby Lashley and MVP entered the scene.

MVP stated that it’d be pointless for Lashley to hold an open challenge, but Lashley beating Priest for the gold would be good for business. To make matters more complicated, the RAW Tag Team Champions, RK-Bro entered the fray. Randy Orton called Bobby Lashley a “greedy son of a bitch” for wanting a second championship.

Lashley threatened to take the tag titles instead, and Riddle dared Lashley and MVP to face them in an open challenge. WWE officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville crashed the party by saying they were staring at two big main events. Pearce said Priest would defend the gold against Sheamus and McIntyre. Meanwhile, RK-Bro would also face Lashley and MVP on the show.

In the triple threat match, McIntyre, Priest and Sheamus took the fight to each other in a physical battle. At one point, Sheamus took control with an Irish Curse backbreaker on Priest. Later, with Priest on the outside, McIntyre and Sheamus reignited their rivalry by trading thunderous blows.

Priest regained the upper hand and more than held his own with the former WWE Champions. “The Scottish Warrior” fired back with a Michinoku Driver on Priest for a two count. He chopped the champion and put Priest on the top rope; once Sheamus entered the mix, McIntyre suplexed both men. A few minutes later, Sheamus locked McIntyre in a Cloverleaf, but the former champion refused to tap.

Sheamus then dropped Priest with the Brogue Kick, but McIntyre caught his former friend with the Future Shock DDT. McIntyre took control, but Sheamus drilled him with a pump knee to the face for a near fall.

In the end, Priest dodged a Claymore, so the blow floored Sheamus, and the champion pinned McIntyre with the Reckoning to retain the title.
