Christian Cage says he has won the IMPACT Championship and is bringing it home for the IMPACT audience.

Last night, Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega in the very first match in AEW Rampage history, and in doing so, he captured the IMPACT World Championship. Christian Cage has roots in IMPACT Wrestling as back in 2005, he joined IMPACT’s predecessor, TNA Wrestling, and captured the NWA World Championship, the company’s top championship at the time.

Speaking in a digital exclusive after his victory, Christian Cage explained his roots with the organization and why he felt it was his duty to win the championship and become a champion that the fans could be proud of.

“Well, I mean, I’m pretty beat up, but it’s a pretty surreal moment, to be honest with you. You know, I put myself kind of behind the 8-ball a little bit where I said, you know, that I was going to, without a doubt, beat Kenny for the IMPACT Championship and I was going to be in the IMPACT Zone this coming week I would look like, pretty much, an idiot if I didn’t follow through on that, right? But it feels damn good and like I said, my roots run deep with IMPACT, and I thought it was my duty to win this back for the IMPACT fans and because the company means so much to me. So it’s back home where it belongs.”

Now, Christian Cage has an IMPACT World Championship defense next week against Brian Myers at IMPACT Emergence. While they have never crossed paths directly, both men do have strong ties to Edge. Christian, of course, is Edge’s childhood friend and both men have grown through the industry together. Brian Myers, on the other hand, was a protege of Edge during his time in WWE as Curt Hawkins.
