Leon Ruff Released By WWE

During a shocking wave of cuts by WWE on Friday, Leon Ruff — a former NXT North American Champion — has been released by the company.

The news was first reported by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, with Ruff joining a shockingly long list of superstars, most of whom were on the NXT brand, that were let go. Ruff made a name for himself in 2020, when he signed a contract with WWE and promptly won the NXT North American Championship by defeating Johnny Gargano.

Ruff held the title for a few weeks before he lost the title back to Gargano at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, ending his reign at just 25 days. After his feud with Gargano ended, Ruff entered a rivalry with Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and lost their ultimate clash. Ruff last competed on NXT in May, but he is facing Grayson Waller on tonight’s episode of WWE 205 Live.
