Shane Taylor Promotions is quickly becoming one of the most dominant stables in Ring of Honor, and with a former ROH World Television Champion at the helm, there’s no telling how far the group can go.
Given his successful run in ROH, Shane Taylor often gets the credit for the stable’s prominence, but in a recent interview with WrestleZone, Taylor explained how he saw untapped potential in Moses and Kaun, and later O’Shay Edwards. Together, they have risen through the ranks in ROH, and the faction currently holds the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. Taylor also described how the group shares a common goal in its vision for the future of professional wrestling, especially as it relates to African American performers.
“I see everything in them, and I saw it the day that I saw them at the [ROH] Dojo,” said Taylor. “I saw when they just started to go on the road, and nobody else knew what to do with them. They were just sitting there, waiting. And I was like oh, well that’s where y’all messed up. Because I saw it right away.
“And in talking to them, we all have the same goals, the same vision, and we look at professional wrestling as a whole, especially when it comes to being African-American males in this sport, we see what we want this sport to be the exact same way. And that’s what Shane Taylor Promotions is all about. Bucking those trends, tearing down those stereotypes and creating the industry, creating the sport, creating the opportunity that we want, not only ourselves to have, but the generations after us to have as well. So once we all sat down and figured out we were all on the same page, the rest was just a formality. Then that’s why you see the chemistry on-screen and off. And for me, I don’t think there is a more cohesive unit, I don’t think there is a more talented unit from top to bottom, in every aspect of this sport, than STP is right now.”
Moses and Kaun, also known as the Soldiers of Savagery, have been impressive throughout their time in ROH, and their association with Taylor has put the spotlight on the duo more than ever before. Taylor shared his joy in seeing the duo excel and grow, and he also stated that he enjoyed getting to help the two men win their firs titles with the company/
“Watching Kaun and Moses learn, grow, get better on the mic, in the ring, just gain that confidence and watch them come into their own has been absolutely incredible to watch and to play a small part in that… it’s truly a joy,” said Taylor. “Someone asked me which title win of mine felt better, whether it was the TV Title or the Six-Man [World Tag Team Championship], and for me, I said the Six-Man, right, because I already know what it’s like to be a champion in ROH. And when I won the TV title, it was vindication, right, but winning the Six-Man Titles and knowing it was their first title, they get to etch their names in history. Nobody can take that away from them.
“And we did it the way that we wanted to, and we did it while being us and nobody else. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
Shane Taylor Promotions was in action this past weekend on ROH Wrestling; the faction faced The Foundation in a heated eight-man tag team match. Tune in to the FITE TV premiere at 7 p.m. EST on Monday, and watch ROH Wrestling to see the stable’s ongoing growth.
