ROH Wrestling Results (7/5/21): Briscoes Fight On The Farm, Pure Title Match

Quinn McKay welcomes viewers and previews the show. She recaps Bandido’s win in the Survival of the Fittest tournament. In a post-match promo, Bandido celebrates his victory and states that he won’t waste his shot at RUSH.

 ROH Pure Championship: Jonathan Gresham (c) vs. Fred Yehi

In a pre-match promo, Yehi recaps his journey in Ring of Honor up to this point. He describes how he’s crossed paths with Gresham in the past; “The Savage Weight” says he knows Gresham better than his past challengers, and he vows to take the title.

Meanwhile, Gresham shares his excitement for this bout. He describes how he thought Yehi would be an ally in his quest to purify Ring of Honor, but he criticizes the challenger’s attitude toward pure wrestling in ROH. Gresham calls himself the best pure wrestler in the world and tells Yehi to either join him in this war or get out of the way.

Gresham kicks Yehi’s arm away after they shake hands. The two men feel each other out with technical holds to begin the bout. Yehi takes Gresham down and wrenches his ankle. The bout is a stalemate early on, but Gresham nearly takes the win with a quick pin attempt. Yehi lifts Gresham above his head and slams him down with a wrist-lock. Both men tumble over the ropes and continue trading technical holds outside the ring.

Back in the ring, the two competitors trade hip toss attempts, and neither man is able to execute the maneuver. Gresham shows some signs of frustration, as his game plan isn’t working on Yehi. The challenger stomps Yehi, and the two men exchange pin attempts. Neither man can maintain the upper hand, but after a sequence of counters, Gresham rolls Yehi up for the win.

Winner and still ROH Pure Champion: Jonathan Gresham

Gresham taunts Yehi after the match, but they still shake hands. In an interview, the champion notes his 10-0 record in Pure Rules matches and says he showed Yehi what pure wrestling is all about. As for his next challenger, Mike Bennett, Gresham states that he knows who Bennett is. He says he doesn’t respect Bennett and declares that he’ll end Bennett’s rise in the pure division at ROH Best in the World.
