Adam Cole: There’s Still So Much For Me To Do In NXT, I’d Love To Face Samoa Joe

Ahead of Adam Cole’s buzzworthy match with Kyle O’Reilly at NXT Great American Bash, the former champion’s run on the black-and-gold brand is seemingly at a crossroads. As someone who has done it all in NXT, Cole could easily make the jump to WWE’s main roster. But in an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Cole made it clear that he feels like he has unfinished business on the brand.

“There is so much to do,” said Cole. “I find it so flattering that there are people that want to see Adam Cole on RAW or SmackDown so, so badly. But then there’s another group that’s like no, I want him to stay in NXT.

“Right now, the possibilities of things to do on any of the three brands feels endless for me. It just feels exciting across the board.”

As for his specific goals, Cole emphasized that he wants to win the NXT Championship again, and he named Joe and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott as two stars he wants to face. That being said, he acknowledged the numerous fresh matches and possibilites that could be waiting for him on WWE RAW or SmackDown.

“I would love to win the NXT title again,” said Cole. “I would love to face Samoa Joe. I would love the chance to wrestle Isiah ‘Swerve’ Scott. There’s so many possibilities within that brand.

“Then of course with RAW or SmackDown there’s a bunch of talent that I haven’t had the chance to wrestle yet that I would love to as well. So it’s exciting, but there is definitely plenty for me to do in NXT yet.”

Since Samoa Joe returned to NXT, “The Samoan Submission Machine” has clashed with Cole on a few occasions. Joe’s future as an in-ring competitor remains unclear, but the former Undisputed Era leader explained why the opportunity to face him would be “incredible.”

“Samoa Joe was one of the guys responsible for me actually discovering independent wrestling,” said Cole. “Him, along with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan – Bryan Danielson at the time – I remember seeing those guys and being like ‘Oh my god, I have to watch all of their matches!’

“And I have never, in my 13 year career, wrestled Samoa Joe. We just never crossed paths. And I know things are very different now where we are unsure if Joe will ever actually get back in the ring, but you can guarantee if that day does happen, I will be hoping and praying as much as the NXT fanbase is that we have an Adam Cole and Samoa Joe match.”

After just a few heated interractions, Cole and Joe have already left many fans practically begging for WWE to book this bout. The initial teases of this contest have been electric, and Cole noted that he knows the two potential rivals have something special.

“It’s crazy how it happens sometimes with guys,” said Cole. “Because that’s not always the case; you can have two amazing performers and they don’t necessarily gel or it takes a little bit to get there.

“With Joe, I felt it immediately. Just right away. I would love the idea of being able to do that someday – I hope so.”
