Last year, WWE superstar Keith Lee filed an application to trademark his name. However, the star is currently facing some issues when it comes to getting it granted.
According to a recent report by Heel By Nature, Lee’s attorney received a notice indicating that there were two issues with the application, including the fact that a prior-pending application for Lee’s trademark was already filed by WWE. While Lee’s application included photos that showed the superstar has been using the name since 2008, the trademark office believes the photos only identify the name of a specific individual, and not something that functions “as a service mark to identify and distinguish.”
It’s unclear what Lee’s next steps would be in getting things handled, but he could include different parameters for the application to try and get it passed. Meanwhile, WWE has also been facing issues in their own attempt to trademark the Keith Lee name, with the trademark office having sent a letter to the company seeking a signed consent form from Keith Lee that never turned up.
WWE now has until September to provide a signed consent form from Lee in order to move forward with the application. However, in order for Lee to be granted his trademark, WWE will have to abandon theirs, so it’s unclear as to what the two parties will decide to do. Keith Lee has been away and off of WWE television for several months now.
