Triple H On William Regal: He’ll Always Be A Part Of NXT, No Matter Where We Go On Tuesday

William Regal will be an integral part of the NXT brand regardless of his future as an on-air character.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels took part in Sunday’s NXT TakeOver: In Your House media call and were asked about how the show ended on a bit of a cliffhanger with William Regal teasing a change in NXT. Short of asking where the story is headed exactly, I asked what Regal has meant to the NXT brand and what he can still contribute regardless of if he’s on television or not.

Triple H said Regal has been there the entire time and adds so much to shaping talent, and envisions him being around as long as he [Regal] wants to be there. He went on to praise his work ethic and said Regal is just one of the many people in NXT that are there to make the business they love better by changing the bad and enhancing the good.

“William Regal is just imperative, he’s been such an integral part of this since day one. There are certain people that have and there’s people that have come in along the way, and it’s hard to envision it in any sort of way without them. Regal’s definitely one of those people,” he explained, “and I don’t think that we will ever do it without him. He will be part of this until the day that he tells me he doesn’t want to be part of it anymore.

“He just loves—it’s why Shawn’s here, it’s why Matt Bloom’s here, Sara [Amato] is here, it’s why this whole team is here. They love all of the aspects of this business and want to see it continue and move forward, they want to guide it and change it into the future,” Triple H said. “They want to try and create the business that they always hoped and wished it could be as they were coming up, get rid of the things that none of us liked or understood about the business, enhance the bits and pieces that we did love about it.

“He’s that way to the core. He’s constantly pulling talent aside, constantly in their ear and he’s one of the biggest recruiting factors we have. He’s got a handle on just about everybody that’s out there and is one of the best eyes of [finding talent] that’s maybe never done this before that steps in the ring and just athletically you say, ‘They’ll be able to do this and do it very well.’ He’s incredible at that and his value here is tough to be measured,” Triple H said, “and he’ll always be a part of it, no matter where we go on Tuesday.”

Shawn Michaels closed by saying Regal is a coach through and through, and that’s always who he’s been and will be, whether he’s an authority figure on TV or not.

“Whether he’s an on-air character or not, he’s a coach to the end,” Michaels said. “That’s just who he is as a human being. [He] can’t help but want to help younger talent, and he’s always been that way and will be that regardless of whether he’s on TV or not, I can promise you.”

After breaking up several fights backstage, NXT TakeOver: In Your House ended with Regal talking about how he’d never seen such pandemonium in his seven years as General Manager of NXT, and said he thinks it’s time for a change.
