Tony Khan Says He’s On A Handshake Deal With Lio Rush

Tony Khan says the ink’s not dry on a contract, but he hopes we’ll Lio Rush again in AEW after Double Or Nothing.

Tony Khan participated in a post-show media scrum after AEW Double Or Nothing and he was asked to comment on Lio Rush’s status. Rush made a surprise appearance as the Joker in the Casino Battle Royale on Sunday night, but Khan says Rush hasn’t signed anything with AEW.

“I haven’t like a ‘pen to paper’ [deal] but Lio and I have a handshake [deal] that he can work here and New Japan both, and that we’d want to do it and he’d want to keep working here. I think we worked something pretty good out on a handshake. I think he’s doing that on a handshake with New Japan too, that’s kinda what we’ve been doing with New Japan and it’s been pretty good. I think it’s a good way to work, and so far, so good.”

Since leaving WWE last April, Rush has primarily worked for GCW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, including a tag team match on NJPW Strong where he teamed with Fred Rosser to defeat Bullet Club’s El Phantasmo and Hikuleo. Rush also enjoyed a stay in MLW, last appearing on the May 5 episode of MLW Fusion when he lost the MLW Middleweight Championship to Myron Reed.
