Anthony Ogogo Explains Why He Picked AEW Over WWE: They Care About People First Here

In a matter of weeks, Anthony Ogogo has quickly become a breakout name in All Elite Wrestling.

Before his pay-per-view debut at AEW Double or Nothing, in an interview with Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc., Ogogo reflected on his boxing career and the heights he reached with several remarkable sponsorship deals.

“I was the first boxer in the world to ever be signed to a long-term deal with Nike,” said Ogogo. “That’s how notorious I was in the UK, in the world. I was signed to Subway for five years. I had some proper top, top brands sponsoring me.”

But this prominence didn’t fulfill Ogogo’s desires, so in many ways, he’s starting over with a clean slate as a wrestler with AEW.

“What did I get out of my boxing career? I’m blind in my left eye,” said Ogogo. “I didn’t achieve the things I wanted to achieve. I’m getting a bonus career, I didn’t think I was ever going to be a wrestler. I thought I was going to be a boxer. This is a bonus for me.”

Finally, Ogogo explained why, although WWE offered him more money, he chose AEW. He pointed to the way AEW takes care of its wrestlers as a deciding factor.

“[WWE] offered me more money than AEW,” said Ogogo. “I didn’t join them because I believe in Tony Khan’s vision.  I believe in Cody Rhodes vision. I believe in AEW’s vision. I love being a part of AEW. I love how the team give a f— about their wrestlers. They care about the people rather than the money.

“The other place, they seem to care about money first and people if at all. We care about the people first because they know that a happy workplace creates good stuff. So I’m very proud to be in AEW.”
