Report: Tom Phillips Released By WWE

Tom Phillips is no longer with WWE.

According to a report by Fightful, Tom Phillips was released by WWE after a tenure that lasted nearly ten years. The move was not officially released by WWE, but Phillips’ departure was said to be the latest release that saw a number of backstage personnel being cut. It was noted that Fightful was not aware of any specific conditions in place for Phillips’ WWE departure.

Phillips (real name Tom Hannifan) began working for WWE in 2012 on the WWE app, and he has since worked as an on-air commentator for WWE RAW, SmackDown, NXT, Main Event and 205 Live. Most recently, he was moved from RAW to 205 Live; the change was announced when Adnan Virk was revealed to be the new RAW commentator in April. Phillips had also been working behind the scenes as Senior Manager of On-Air Talent and oversaw special projects for WWE’s programming on Peacock.

Virk has since left WWE and was replaced by Jimmy Smith, the former UFC and Bellator broadcaster. There was no report in regards to Phillips’ replacement in his respective roles.
