The Dirty Dawgs strategically gave themselves the advantage at WWE WrestleMania Backlash.
Ahead of their scheduled defense of the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, the duo attacked Dominik Mysterio backstage. Before the match began, Rey Mysterio told his son that they’d have another shot at some point. But Rey still came to the ring, prepared to face his son’s assailants by himself.

He took the fight to the champions as soon as the bell rang. With an initial flurry of offense, Mysterio gained the upper hand. But The Dirty Dawgs used the numbers game to ground Mysterio and control the match. Later in the bout, Mysterio seemingly injured his leg, and Ziggler targeted it like a shark who smelled blood in the water.
Rey kept figthing with the heart of a lion, determined to defy the odds. But Ziggler blasted him with a brutal kick to the face to squash any momentum he had. Still, Rey kept refused to give up. When he gained the upper hand, the injured Dominik limped to the ring. Surprisingly, Rey kicked out of a Zig Zag. With a bulldog off the second rope to Roode, he earned enough breathing room to tag Dominik.

The younger Mysterio didn’t find much luck right away, as the champions grounded him too. But much like his father, Dominik persevered and tagged his partner. Once Rey gained momentum, he hit Roode with the 619, and Dominik pinned Roode with a frog splash for the win.

After the match, Rey and Dominik celebrated their win in the ring. Rey said he was on top of the world, and Dominik said the victory was an honor and a blessing.
