Asuka Hopes To Share Asian Culture Through WWE, Wants To Wrestle Triple H and Ric Flair

Asuka still has some major goals left in WWE.

Asuka recently spoke with ET Canada‘s Shakiel Mahjouri and talked about May being Asian Heritage Month. Noting that she is arguably the most successful Japanese star in WWE history, Asuka was asked about being a role model for Asian girls who might look to her for inspiration. Asuka said she would tell them all to follow their dreams and never give up because she never did and now she’s a WWE Superstar.

“I want to say to Asian girls, don’t give up on your dreams! When I was 16, I wanted to be a WWE superstar. One day I asked my mom can I be a WWE superstar, and she said, ‘No, you have to go college! I also told my high school teacher, ‘I want to be a WWE superstar.’ She laughed and said, ‘Don’t be silly.’ I was shocked. I had no choice. I gave up on my dream once. I went to college and after graduating from college, I started training. I couldn’t give up on my dream. My friends gave me confidence, ‘You can do it, you can do it!’ I called a wrestling company in Tokyo. I left my hometown of Osaka, Japan. Now I am a WWE superstar. Don’t give up on your dream!”

The former RAW Women’s Champion was also asked about what goals she has left in the company after a decorated career so far, and she said she hopes to use her platform to educate people on Asian culture.

“People all over the world are watching WWE. My goal in WWE is to get more people to know me. I want to share the wonderful cultures of Japanese and Asians as an Asian.”

Asuka also still has some bucket list items in the form of potential matchups. Mahjouri brought up the fact that Rhea Ripley recently said she waited five years for the chance to wrestle her, and asked if there were any first-time matches she wants. Asuka revealed a few surprising choices in the men’s and women’s divisions.

“I want to wrestle with Triple H and Ric Flair. I fought many great WWE superstars,” she said. “Oh, [I want to wrestle] Ronda Rousey.”

Noting that Rousey is currently expecting a baby soon and it might be a bit longer for that match, Asuka said it will happen “one day!”
