Report: Daniel Bryan’s WWE Contract Expired After Title Match Against Roman Reigns

Daniel Bryan leaving WWE could actually be closer to reality.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Daniel Bryan’s WWE contract actually expired or was at least set to expire after his match against Roman Reigns on SmackDown last week. The wording of the report was stressed and noted that while several sources “inside and outside of WWE” indicated Bryan’s contract was expiring, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Bryan is leaving the company or he won’t keep working without a deal, just that his most recent contract was up. In addition, it was also explained that no one said anything about Bryan saying goodbye to anyone backstage, but it also didn’t mean that those farewells didn’t happen behind closed doors.

Daniel Bryan was supposed to leave SmackDown as a result of losing the match to Reigns, and has since been moved to the alumni section of WWE’s website. The former WWE Champion recently spoke with TV Line and said that he was surprised people mentioned September as the timeframe for when his WWE contract would expire, noting that September was when his last deal ended, but this one doesn’t. The outlet noted that Bryan was “tight-lipped” about when his deal actually expired.

F4WOnline.com‘s Dave Meltzer has also confirmed Bryan’s contract expired on Friday, May 1, and that WWE “is pushing hard for him to sign a new deal.”
