UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou is on top of the world, having just recently defeated Stipe Miocic for the belt. However, as the reigning champ, he’s subject to challenges, and WWE Champion Bobby Lashley was the latest superstar to send a message to Ngannou.
Speaking to JOE recently, Lashley called out the Heavyweight Champion, saying that he’d welcome the opportunity to face Ngannou in any fashion. “He has a title, I have a title – we could do it in the ring or the cage,” he said. “I don’t mind it. If this is calling him out, this is calling him out.”
Lashley went on to talk about his history with the world of MMA, noting that while he was able to win some titles and held an incredible 15-2 record, he never fully dedicated himself to the sport because of his love for wrestling. “I went into that world [MMA] without aspirations of being a UFC champion, I went into that world to learn the business and learn the sport,” he said. “I won some titles but I was never completely 100% dedicated because I always wanted to come back to professional wrestling.
“That was my goal the entire time, but some of the organisations told me that in order for me to come in I had to write the pro wrestling part out of my schedule and I couldn’t do that.”
While it’s unlikely that Lashley and Ngannou face off for their respective belts, it’s still interesting to see Lashley discussing his passion for MMA, and never forgetting the history that he had in the sport.
