CM Punk On Chris Jericho’s Broken Skull Sessions Appearance: ‘It Shows Vince McMahon Isn’t Afraid Of AEW At All’

CM Punk doesn’t think the highly-touted Chris Jericho episode of Broken Skull Sessions will be hard-hitting, and says maybe that’s the way it should be.

Punk spoke with TMZ about the upcoming episode, which airs Sunday night on Peacock and WWE Network. He said the show is interesting and he understands the buzz, but thinks it’s going to end up being light in tone.

“Maybe I’ll give it a shot and watch it, but it feels like it’s going to be softball questions. I don’t if they’re going to ask Jericho all the tough questions,” Punk said, “and nor do I think that they possibly should. It’s an interesting situation, so it’ll probably be a feel good interview where they talk about Jericho’s past at WWE.”

Punk said that he’s sure they’ll mention AEW, but doesn’t think fans will hear any hard questions that they are interested in. When asked if he’s surprised Vince McMahon and Tony Khan allowed it, Punk also said this appearance by Jericho just shows that Vince isn’t worried about AEW at all.

“Honestly, my knee-jerk reaction opinion on it is that I think it shows Vince McMahon isn’t afraid of AEW at all, because if he was, he wouldn’t allow that to happen,” Punk stated. “Anytime anybody is talking about you, it is good. There will be people that don’t know AEW exists who will watch it and say, ‘Oh wow, cool, I didn’t know that. I just thought Jericho was retired.’ But there is also something to be said about keeping your guys special and the only place you can see this Superstar is on my television show. It’s a new age and I think both companies need all the eyeballs they can get at the moment. Kudos to everybody involved.”

Finally, Punk was asked about the more likely place to see him, whether it’s a wrestling ring or an MMA cage. Punk said he’s busy doing TV and movies and there’s “a lot more grey in this beard” than there was a year ago, adding that he’s getting long in the tooth for MMA.
