Jensen Karp, The ‘Guy That Found Shrimp Tails In His Cinnamon Toast Crunch’, Was Once A WWE RAW Writer

Jensen Karp is an accomplished writer, producer and author — and now he’s gaining viral fame as the “Cinnamon Toast Crunch Shrimp Tails” guy.

On Monday, Karp (who also wrote for WWE RAW in 2006, thus giving us the connection to feature this on a wrestling website, as if this outrageous story needed one) posted a photo and tagged the official Cinnamon Toast Crunch Twitter account, asking why there were shrimp tails in his cereal. As if finding shrimp tails in your cereal wasn’t bad enough, Karp went back and looked in the bag (the first bag in a two-pack box purchased at a California Costco), finding a knotted piece of string and small black pieces that were baked onto some of the squares.

After sending the photos to his wife, actress Danielle Fishel (yes, Topanga), and clearly pointing out that this was not a gag, Karp also discovered the second bag had clear tape on the bottom, leading him to believe the cereal was tampered with prior to purchasing it. Karp documented the experience and sent it all to General Mills via email, who ended up contacting him through their Twitter account and ultimately tried to downplay the situation.

Karp has continued to document every step of the ordeal on his Twitter account. On the other hand, General Mills has done… pretty much nothing but try and offer him a replacement box of cereal and deny the whole thing.

General Mills has done a piss-poor job of handling the matter, from trying (and failing) to convince Karp the shrimp tails were actually baked sugar clumps, to asking him to send them the tails, to telling him to turn them into his local law enforcement agency. Karp maintains that he was just hoping they would take him seriously and look into the issue, but their lack of an investigation and accountability has him (and everyone else) perplexed.

Karp is now getting the box, the shrimp tails and the unconfirmed “specks” tested to make sure he a) can’t get sick and b) confirms what it is. General Mills has since issued a statement privately to Karp via email, and on the company Twitter account.

“While we are still investigating this matter, we can say with confidence that this did not occur at our facility. We are waiting for the consumer to send us the package to investigate further. Any consumers who notice their cereal box or bag has been tampered with, such as the clear tape that was found in this case, should contact us at 1-800-328-1144.”

For those looking to follow the story, check out Karp’s Twitter account for more info. As we wait to see the results of this fiasco, the wrestling world has of course chimed in. Ring Of Honor’s LSG said he couldn’t wait to have Cinnamon Toast Shrimp for dinner, and “All Ego” Ethan Page (a CTC mega fan) says shrimp or no shrimp, he’s not giving up his favorite cereal.
