Charlotte Flair: I Didn’t Understand My Character’s Actions In Lacey Evans Feud, But It Helped Me As A Babyface

For now, it seems like the controversial storyline between Charlotte Flair and Lacey Evans is over. “The Sassy Southern Belle” announced her pregnancy, so at the very least, Evans’ on-screen pairing with Ric Flair is on hiatus.

Charlotte recently appeared on Notsam Wrestling and looked back on her storyline with her father and Evans.

“I definitely thought that him and Lacey worked well together,” said Charlotte. “I understood it, I got it. I think my biggest struggle was, well I’m the daughter of the dirtiest player in the game. Why can I not be the dirtiest player in the game? Like how or why would I fall for his antics if I’ve already been on camera with him and he was my manager?

“I did not [understand] like, why am I not the dirtiest player in the game? I was like throwing a fit, like I don’t understand. I can’t fall for this, it doesn’t make sense.”

Still, “The Queen” explained that the storyline was beneficial because it allowed her to portray a more dynamic, emotional character.

“[It] was tremendous, I grew as a performer, it took me to the next level,” said Charlotte. “…I think whatever emotions that were coming through on-screen, whether it be frustrated or angry or the promo on Monday, I think it definitely brought out a different side of me, the last couple weeks. So I think that it did exactly what it was supposed to.”

Charlotte explained how she appreciated how the storyline was an opportunity to work on her babyface promos, an element of her character that she had been hoping to improve.

“That’s the one thing I told myself — I need to get better at promos,” said Charlotte. “I want to get better. Sometimes I felt, when I was trying to connect with the audience as a babyface, I’m like, man they probably just think I’m whining because they don’t understand where I’m coming from, they don’t understand the pressure I put on myself, they don’t understand what it’s like to be Ric’s kid.

“But it was like a perfect opportunity to go okay, people can empathize with an argument with your parent, saying like let me do this on my own.”

“The Queen” recently told her father to go home, and she has subsequently shifted her focus to the RAW Women’s Championship ahead of WWE WrestleMania 37.
