Bobby Lashley: Vince McMahon Doesn’t Want You To Have Fun, He Wants You To Fight For Your Dreams

Bobby Lashley looks at WWE differently now. Whereas he once focused on having fun, he now knows what it takes to be successful at the highest level.

The new WWE Champion recently spoke with Ryan Satin of FOX Sports and described how he learned a priceless lesson about what Vince McMahon wants from his stars. He also shared how McMahon reacted when he won the title by defeating The Miz on WWE RAW.

“You’re not here to have fun,” said Lashley. “Vince doesn’t want you here to have fun. Vince wants to get in an argument with you because you’re fighting for something that you want. Vince wants you to step out of the box and do something bigger. Vince wants you to want WrestleMania so much that the crowd forces them to give you that title. And I think I started to get into that point this last year, several months definitely. I’ve been mean, man. I’ve been mean. I go out there with a vengeance and there’s a whole lot of confidence running through me.

“When I was able to go through that curtain [after winning the WWE Championship] and give Vince a hug, he grabbed me and he held me for a while and was like, ‘Man, I’m proud of you.’”

Lashley also credited his friend and manager, MVP as an essential factor in his success. He explained how MVP has pushed him to succeed throughout his journey to the WWE Championship.

“[MVP] was a big driving force,” said Lashley. “It was good to have somebody that’s right by your side. Because I always say there’s that little voice in your head that’s saying, ‘Go, go, go’ … but there’s also that little voice in your head that says, ‘You can’t do it.’ We all have it.

“MVP’s voice was louder than that voice. MVP was like, ‘Don’t listen to him. You should be the champion! If you don’t believe that you should be the champion, then I can go somewhere else and find somebody else, but I’m telling you it is your time!’ He’s been just harping on me….Sometimes you need that person! And MVP is that guy for me. He’s a friend.”

With MVP by his side, Lashley has reached new heights in WWE, and it seems like the sky is the limit for “The Almighty.”
