Melina Was In Talks With WWE, But Never Signed A Contract

Melina says nothing is guaranteed in wrestling.

Melina spoke with WrestleTalk and said she never signed a contract with WWE—but she was in talks with them for a time. Back in September, PWInsider reported the former two-time champion had agreed to terms with WWE about a return to the company, a report she later denied.

Now, Melina has clarified the situation and said the two sides had talks but right now nothing’s happening because she’s dealing with a knee injury.

“It was talks of [a return]. Talks of seeing if it was possible and all that stuff. Everyone made such a big deal out of it. I was in talks with [WWE], but I never signed a contract, there was nothing going on. Just ‘hey would you consider, would you be open?’. I’m like ‘hell yeah’. Well it turned out I have like a bad knee, and I can’t wrestle.”

Melina said she wasn’t sure if the knee injury was the only thing stopping her from coming back, noting that they could have put feelers out but “it’s never a guarantee” in wrestling. It was also reported that her name was mentioned as a potential client for Robert Stone in NXT, but Jonny Fairplay later said his comments were taken out of context.

Melina made a cameo on RAW Legends Night in January, and her last appearance prior to that was as a special guest referee in a 24/7 Championship segment at RAW Reunion on July 22, 2019. Since leaving WWE in 2011, Melina has mostly worked on the independent scene; she also started working for the NWA in November 2019 and wrestled several matches until they went on an indefinite hiatus.
