ROH Final Battle Results (12/18/20)

ROH World Tag Team Championship: The Foundation (Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham) (c) vs. Mark Briscoe and PCO 

Briscoe and Lethal start the match. Lethal says he wants to see Briscoe wrestle because this isn’t a fight. Lethal leaves the ring when Briscoe gains the upper hand early on. Lethal hits his classic dropkick, and PCO tags in. The former ROH World Champions square off. PCO threatens to break Lethal’s arm again. He goes for an armbreaker, but Lethal reaches the ropes. Lethal leaves the ring again. Gresham tags in and takes the fight to PCO, but the big man overpowers him.

PCO drills Gresham with a punch to the face and slams him out of the ring. Briscoe tags in and hits a baseball slide dropkick on Lethal. The challengers dive onto the champions outside the ring. Briscoe slams Gresham onto the apron. Briscoe and PCO are dominating. Briscoe dives onto Gresham and Lethal outside the ring. Lethal dodges a diving PCO, and the monster crashes onto the apron. Briscoe suplexes Gresham for a two count. The champions double-team Briscoe and isolate him. Briscoe dives to tag PCO, and he clears house. PCO slams Gresham for a two count. Briscoe tags back in and plants Lethal with a Brainbuster.

Lethal blocks a Froggy Bow while PCO hits his signature moonsault on Gresham. The champions double-team PCO. They hit a Doomsday Device on “The French Frankenstein.” A Shooting Star Press earns Gresham a two count. PCO accidentally collides with Briscoe, and Gresham rolls up “The French Frankenstein” for the win.

Colin: The Foundation proved why they’re the champions here. The Foundation are 2-0 tonight so far. Briscoe and PCO have  fun energy as a team, so I hope we see more of them together. I’m curious what the future holds for The Briscoes, given the way Mark turned Jay down tonight. I also wonder who’s next for Gresham and Lethal, as they need new challengers.

Dalton Castle vs. Rey Horus

The competitors feel each other out. Castle counters an athletic maneuver from Horus into a suplex, and he grounds the high-flyer. He uses his amaueter wrestling skills to keep Horus on the mat. Horus knocks Castle down with a dropkick. He hits a swinging baseball slide dropkick before he dives over the ropes onto Castle. Horus dodges a charging Castle, and he goes sprawling over the barricade, injuring his knee in the process. Horus hits a springboard tornado DDT, but a rope break saves Castle from the pin.

Castle slams Horus for a two count. A German suplex earns Castle another one. Horus drives Castle to the mat with a Tornado Driver for the win.

Winner: Rey Horus

Colin: This was a solid match, but it’s disappointing to see Castle lose yet again. He’s one of the company’s most charismatic stars, but he’s been floating aimlessly for a while now. I thought he’d find success when Ring of Honor returned this fall, but he’s on a losing streak. He could really use a high-profile win to get some positive momentum. 

The Righteous (Vincent and Bateman) vs. The OGK (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett)

The match begins as a wild brawl. Taven and Bennett gain the upper hand early on. They double-team Vincent. Bateman tags in, but Taven uses his quickness to tag Bennett. He chops Vincent and Bateman and clotheslines them in the corner. Bennett is on fire, as he drops both of his opponents. Vita VonStarr distracts him, and The Righteous capitalizes. A Side Effect by Vincent earns Bateman a two count. The Righteous isolates Bennett, and Vincent drops him with a Russian Legsweep.

Bennett tries to rally, but Vincent locks in a guillotine choke. A Brainbuster gives Bennett some breathing room. Taven tags in and clears house. Taven dives onto Vincent outside the ring. A springboard kick and a running knee floor Bateman. Vincent locks Taven in the guillotine choke. Taven drops Vincent with a backbreaker. Vincent hints Redrum (a swanton bomb) for a two count. Bennett spears Vincent. Taven drops Bateman with a DDT. Taven and Vincent knock each other down with kicks at the same time.

Bennett tags in and trades blows with Bateman. Bennett spears Bateman. The OGK hits a spike Piledriver for a two count, but Taven hurt his knee. Bennett slams Bateman on the apron, but Vincent suplexes Bennett on the floor. Taven and Vincent fight in the ring. Vincent blocks a Frog Splash. Taven locks in a modified Koji Clutch. Bennett holds Vincent in place, and Taven hits a Frog Splash. Bennett and Taven hit a double-team maneuver on Bateman for the win.

Winners: Mike Bennett and Matt Taven

VonStarr low blows both men after the match. Vincent plants Taven with Orange Sunshine. He ties Taven to the ropes. VonStarr chokes Taven with a leg-scissors hold. Vincent tells him that the ones around Taven will suffer. He gets a wooden block and tries to destroy Bennett’s ankle by smashing it with a chair. “Happy anniversary, best friend,” Vincent tells Taven. Medical officials tend to Bennett.

Colin: Before the show, I named this match as the one I was most excited for. It had the most compelling, emotional story. Thankfully, it delivered. All four men threw everything they had into this one. Bennett and Taven displayed their chemistry. I’m not surprised they won, but I am surprised by the post-match angle. Vincent and Taven have been feuding for over a year now. Their rivalry is set to continue. Plus, I guess this on-screen injury is a way to write off Bennett, which is disappointing. I wonder if he’s done with ROH for now. Regardless, Vincent continues to do some solid character work. He reminds me of Bray Wyatt, and he’s quickly becoming one of ROH’s must-see acts.
