Cody Rhodes Officially Has His Last Name Back

Cody Rhodes got his name back.

Cody will officially be going by “Cody Rhodes” again, making the announcement to the live crowd after last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite. Cody told the crowd that as of Wednesday, he no longer had “just one name” and said it “feels really good to be Cody Rhodes again”.

Earlier in the day, it was reported by Heel By Nature that WWE canceled its trademark on the name and finalized it on Wednesday. Cody had filed to trademark the name on April 13, the same day WWE’s trademark lapsed, but WWE ultimately filed a late renewal on May 15, claiming they were delayed due to COVID-19.

Cody left WWE in 2016 and had been billed with and without his last name on the independent scene, but regularly started being billed under the mononym “Cody” beginning with his Ring Of Honor debut later that year. He had continued that trend in his respective runs with IMPACT Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling, but it looks like that will now come to an end.
