ROH Wrestling Results (9/28/20): Josh Woods vs. Kenny King

In a video package, Josh Woods recaps his run in Ring of Honor. He says he’s here to prove himself. Woods recaps his amateur wrestling background, which he says he’ll be able to showcase in this tournament. He calls Kenny King’s arrogance his weakness. Woods says he wants to earn King’s respect. He says he’s been training for months, so fans will see a new version of him.

In a video package, King says he wants to bring the ROH Pure Championship to La Faccion Ingobernable. He says Woods’ background may be impressive, but he’s been training so he’ll be able to match up with him. King says he’s here to do what he has to do to win the title. “You moght be good, kid, but you’re no K-I-N-G- King,” he says.

ROH Pure Championship Tournament: Josh Woods vs. Kenny King

Both men feel each other out early on. King uses his quickness to take Woods down and put him in an armbar. Woods gains the upper hand and grounds King. When King sits down, daring Woods to try and take him down, they lock up. Woods puts King in front face-lock, but King escapes. He locks in a triangle chock, but King turns it into a pin to escape. Woods counters a leap-frog and goes for an anklelock, but King gets out of it again. The fight spills outside the ring, where King strikes a pose and kicks Woods in the face.

Woods rocks King with some stiff strikes. King punches Woods in the face, and the referee warns him. King grounds Woods, but he rallies with a suplex. A running knee earns Woods a two count. King hits the Royal Flush out of nowhere, but Woods gets a rope break. Both men tumble to the mat with a falling twisting neckbreaker from Woods. King rolls Woods up for a two count. Woods gets cocky when he gets the upper hand after a big boot. The match comes down to the final minute. King counters a running knee into a single-leg crab but the bell rings. The time limit has expired, so the judges’ panel will decide the winner. The judges declare Woods the victor via slit decision.
