Report: Second AEW Show To Begin Before The End Of 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic may have slowed down certain plans for AEW in 2020, but it didn’t completely postpone them for the year.

According to Dave Meltzer on his latest Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW’s planned second show for programming should still start up before the door closes on 2020. It was way back in January when the company announced via press release that their Tuner deal for AEW Dynamite has been extended through 2023 and that there were also plans for a second show in the works. At the time, Meltzer reported that the show would only be one hour and would air on TNT. The now former Turner President in Kevin Reilly had this to say to Tony Maglio of The Wrap about the plans for a second program which at the time was to be an elaboration of AEW Dark:

“We’re going to embellish [AEW Dark] and put some additional material, kind of behind the scenes, kind of docu-follow stuff, if you will, about the athletes and the stories…”

Reilly also gave further details to Variety:

“We just figured, ‘Let’s bring it onto the network and make it a place where you truly plant up and coming talent. I think we’ll start doing more packages there and filming some behind-the-scenes stuff, not for the matches that night but with other talent to plant stories and grow things that could eventually become another show in and of itself.”
