Bobby Lashley Dominates Apollo Crews, Wins United States Championship at WWE Payback

At WWE Payback, Apollo Crews defended the WWE United States Championship against Bobby Lashley. The Hurt Business accompanied Lashley to the ring. Lashley overpowered Crews early on, but the champion countered with his agility. He rocked Lashley with a dropkick and dropped him with a moonsault off the apron. MVP and Shelton Benjamin distracted Crews, and Lashley capitalized. He regained control of the match and rammed Crews into the ring post. Lashley grounded Crews and kept using his power to slam the champion. Crews floored Lashley with a kick to the head, but Lashley nearly won the match with a Dominator.  Crews rallied and hit a diving crossbody.

The champion dropped Lashley with a spinebuster and escaped the Full Lashley. Crews planted Lashley with a German suplex and got a near fall with a frog splash. Lashley flattened Crews with a spinebuster and locked in the Full Lashley. Crews tapped out, so Lashley won the match and the championship. The win gave Lashley his second reign with the WWE United States Championship; he last won it on May 23, 2006.

After the match, Crews attacked Lashley and vowed to get the title back.
