Joey Janela, who is one of the fan favorites with the social media wrestling audience, has decided to turn over his social media passwords to account managers and leave the platforms altogether to avoid toxicity.

After receiving some backlash for what was a perceived botch on the most recent episode of AEW Dark, the GameChanger Wrestling mainstay and AEW star took to Twitter to reveal that he would be leaving social media noting for the record that he has never botched in his career and did not on the show that aired on Tuesday night. Joey would also say that at one point in his career, the Twitter backlash had him considering retiring from wrestling altogether but he is glad he decided against that.

“Hey, I’ve decided to give up social media. I never botched in my career, & I didn’t on AEW Dark. At one point these horrible humans on social media had me at the point of retirement but I’ve retracted that Decision. I will be handing my passwords to a management team, Thanks JJ.”

At recent GameChanger Wrestling events, Joey faced both ACH and Lio Rush, two superstars who left WWE on less-than-mutual terms. After the match with Lio Rush, Janela spoke to the live audience about his desire to see bullying in wrestling end altogether before stopping Lio from making his own decision to retire, feeling that his former rival has much more to offer the industry.

In addition to his work on Tuesdays on AEW Dark and Wednesdays on Dynamite, Joey Janela can regularly be seen at GameChanger Wrestling and other independent wrestling shows that are once again starting to run as we adjust to the new normal amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
