7/22 AEW Dynamite Preview: Cody’s Mystery Opponent, Is Ricky Starks With Taz?

WrestleZone encourages you to begin your AEW discussion in the comments section below, in the WZ Forums, or via the WZ Facebook Discussion Group.

After weeks of PPV-adjacent lineups, All Elite Wrestling is back to the regular Dynamite, but that doesn’t mean the action is slowing down. This week, we’ve got Cody Rhodes taking on a mystery free agent, Taz possibly securing more talent to manage, and MJF is even in action. Here are all the segments and matches we know about going into this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite:

  • Both participants in last week’s World Title clash will be in the ring separately, ready to discuss the aftermath. For Moxley, it was another impressive defense, and we’ll likely get a hint towards his next challenger. For Brian Cage and Taz, it’s a time to regroup, although we may see the Human Suplex Machine bring in the talents of one Ricky Starks after his assist last night to close out AEW Dark.

  • Speaking of Starks, Cody will once again put his TNT Championship on the line against a mystery opponent to start off the night. AEW CEO Tony Khan has promised that one of the top independent wrestlers in the world has accepted the challenge of the American Nightmare. Will we see another WWE castoff find a home tonight, or will it be an even greater surprise?

  • One half of the AEW Tag Team Champions will take on one member of Mr. Brodie Lee’s Dark Order in singles action. The former Alan Angels has joined the organization, morphing into the faceless Five. Can Adam Page fend off the Dark Order’s influence and escape unscathed? We can’t know for sure, but he seems pretty confident:

  • In tag team action, The Young Bucks face off against The Butcher and The Blade in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Will the two ruffians be able to lure The Elite into a brawl they can’t win and get revenge, or can The Bucks overcome with flash and flips? Maybe more importantly, will FTR be on hand to make the save if things go south?

  • The Inner Circle and Jurassic Express clash once again, with Jericho and Hager looking to take out some of that Orange Juice-fueled anger on Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus. Will Freshly Squeezed try to show up Le Champion and his posse once again?

  • In a much-anticipated injection of new blood into the AEW Women’s Division, Diamante will face off against Ivelisse Velez in singles action. Both women have been mostly on the sidelines during their time in AEW for one reason or another, and this contest should go far towards rectifying that going forward.

  • Last, but certainly not least, MJF is in action with Wardlow at his side. Who will Mr. Friedman face? What is he hoping to accomplish? Will he ever get the title shot he so rightly deserves? Some of these questions will almost certainly be answered when Dynamite hits TNT tonight at 8 PM EST.
