Tony Khan Plugs Cody Rhodes’ Challenger Tomorrow As A Top Independent Wrestler In The World

The folks over at AEW Dynamite are all about the teases today as Tony Khan joins Jon Moxley in dangling the creative carrots to fans with his latest reveal. The All Elite Wrestling President announced that Cody Rhodes’ upcoming challenger tomorrow night will not just be anybody but billed him as “One of the top independent wrestlers in the world.”

Cody has been accepting challenges from both roster members and non-roster members since his TNT Title reign started, but Khan as well as his company went ahead and advertised an “outside” tease as Rhodes’ opponent.

“Tomorrow night on #AEWDynamite, @CodyRhodes will defend the TNT Championship against one of the top independent wrestlers in the world! It’s part of a huge card and what I promise will be a great episode of #AEW Dynamite tomorrow night on TNT at 8pm ET/7pm CT!”

There’s been a great deal of speculation that top independent star Warhorse may be Cody’s challenger, particularly after Arn Anderson dropped his name in a recent clip to Cody, but the wrestling world knows that the independent scene is budding with names so the guesses could vary.

If one was to tie in Moxley’s statements today where he said there is going to be a “big surprise” on Wednesday for “hardcore fans who kind of follow the scene around the world,” it could lend the potential independent name coming from a global perspective.
