Ric Flair Settles ‘The Man’ Trademark Dispute With WWE

Before The Man became The Ma, Becky Lynch’s nickname was causing some issues between WWE and one of its most treasured legends. After seeing Becky rise to fame in part because of the nickname, itself a way to mock then-rival Charlotte Flair, the original “Man” Ric Flair filed a trademark for the phrase. This was in August of last year, and the two parties have been wrangling with the mark ever since.

As reported by PWInsider, that came to an end on May 18, when Ric Flair has agreed to release the two trademarks he filed last year to WWE. Flair also recently signed a new Legends deal with the company, and this negotiation likely played a part in Flair releasing the term to World Wrestling Entertainment. Now, Becky is free to return as The Man when she’s done being The Ma, and Charlotte is free to reign as NXT Women’s Champion across all WWE programming.
