Randy Orton Challenges Edge To Match At WWE Backlash

This week on WWE RAW, Edge and Randy Orton returned to the red brand for the first time since their Last Man Standing Match at WWE WrestleMania 36. First, Edge reflected on his win over Orton. He repeated that he’s never lived in a world with “What ifs.” He said there’s more to come. “WrestleMania is not the end for Edge,” he said. The Rated R Superstar said he’s not hunting Orton. “I got my closure,” said Edge. He said he’s ready to move on. Orton came to the ring and congratulated Edge because the better man won at WWE WrestleMania. Orton walked away but he came back to the ring. He said he hoped they could be friends again. “But I can’t lie to myself,” said Orton. The Viper said the better man may have won the match, but the better wrestler didn’t. Orton called Edge’s return at WWE Royal Rumble convenient because he hid behind other competitors. He also said he got back up when Edge knocked him down. “It didn’t take me nine years to get back on my feet,” said Orton. Orton doubted Edge could take him in a traditional wrestling match. “I don’t think ya got it in you anymore,” said Orton. “There is doubt in your eyes.”

Orton said grit and passion brought Edge back to the WWE, but those traits didn’t compare to Orton’s natural talent. He then challenged Edge to a match.”I think this story writes itself, don’t you? That is, if you got the guts. If you’ve got the guts, then at Backlash, it’ll be Edge vs. Orton in a straight-up wrestling match.” Charly Caruso said the two stars could put on the “greatest wrestling match ever.” But Edge didn’t officially accept the challenge.
