Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts: My Fear Was If I Missed One AEW Dynamite Taping, I Wouldn’t Be Needed Anymore

Jake “The Snake” Roberts says he let his insecurities get the best of him and that’s what led him to keep appearing on AEW Dynamite during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

A new video uploaded to the DDPY YouTube channel features a look back at Roberts’ decision to leave DDP’s home to participate in the recent AEW Dynamite tapings, and how he ended up returning to the home. Dallas explained that one of his employees, David, had dinner at a Waffle House restaurant that tested positive for the coronavirus, and they shut down the DDPY Performance Center. DDP said he’s not afraid of the virus but he wanted to be prepared for it and spoke about the precautions they were taking to keep his family safe.

Jake talked about just getting started with All Elite Wrestling, and he said his fear was that if he missed a show, he wouldn’t be needed anymore. “I was so insecure. I had to go,” Roberts said.

Dallas says he told Jake he wasn’t kicking him out but explained that having a baby in his home and putting other people at risk would force him to not allow Jake back in. Jake said people have asked if he’s pissed off, but he said he’s not because it’s DDP’s house and his rules.

“Whenever I went to Jacksonville, I took everything I had with me because I knew there was no coming back. No questions, I never asked Dallas to come back. I was staying out by the airport at a fine hotel, I had room service and I could go down to the restaurant and eat. I had a gym to work out in, a swimming pool—what the hell, I’ve got everything I need.”

“There was nobody around, it got depressing. They shut the gym down, that was a big one. It hit me hard, I didn’t like what I was thinking. I wasn’t thinking about drinking or doing drugs, but I don’t think I was far from thinking about that. I just didn’t like the way I was feeling.”

Dallas explained that he needed a find a way to get Jake home and cited how much Jake helped him build his brand.

Roberts also spoke with Wrestling Inc’s Nick Hausman while he was still in isolation at the hotel and said he initially thought he was helping AEW by going, but now he’s paying for it by being alone and quarantined. Roberts added that he knew AEW taped enough content for several weeks of TV but thought people needed to do a better job of staying home and listening to the right people.

Jake is now back in the home and has been under quarantine since returning. Check out the full video below:
