Edge Confirms He Talked To AEW, Says He Didn’t Want A Bidding War

WWE Superstar Edge had a new documentary released on the WWE Network last night and during the show it was revealed that he indeed was in talks with AEW to join the company.

He did not go into detail about the talks and did not mention AEW by name, but he did reveal some information, confirming our own report that he was not only in talks with AEW but Vince McMahon insisted his return took place in a WWE ring if it was going to happen at all.

Edge said, “SummerSlam happened and then another company within the industry contacted me and said they were interested and wanted to know if I could wrestle. At this point, I didn’t know if I could. Before I did anything, I decided I needed to find out.”

Edge went on to say that there were some initial discussions but told them that when there was an official offer on the table he would need to talk to Vince. The reason was that Edge said “He’s done right by me my entire career. He gave me my chance. He trusted me to be able to pull off a lot of things, be a pillar for his shows, be a general. That goes a long way for me.”

So Edge sat down with Vince that weekend and revealed everything from a potential return to the ring to discussions with AEW. Edge said, “I reached out to Vince and said, ‘I need to talk to you this weekend. It needs to be face to face, not through texts or phone calls.’ I went, sat down with him, and told him everything. I wasn’t trying to get a bidding war going or anything like that. WWE didn’t even know this was possible. I didn’t even know if this was possible. Vince said, ‘Well, this needs to happen in WWE’.'”

The last step in the process was for Edge to get sent to Pittsburgh, PA to visit with 80-year-old Dr. Joseph Maroon, the doctor who medically disqualified him years ago. This time, Dr. Joseph Maroon cleared Edge to return to the ring.
