Backstage Reactions To NXT Transitioning To Cable TV

Just one week ago, nobody backstage was even thinking about the possibility of NXT moving to cable TV. Since then, it was revealed that NXT will be moving to cable TV on the same night and time slot that AEW will be on air. Several superstars are now revealing their thoughts.

According to Sean Ross Sapp at Fightful, some of the superstars backstage were not even aware of the move until it was brought up to them. The impact on the main roster seems to be minimal for now. An unnamed veteran superstar said that they wondered how viewers would respond to the show moving from one hour to two hours. Other superstars expect NXT to be seen as the ‘third brand’ moving forward. One such roster member said they believe that AEW will outdraw NXT in attendance, and NXT will outdraw AEW on TV. That same superstar said it would be difficult to get fans to watch NXT over the “new feel” of AEW.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the move is that many producers and agents who work with NXT and all aspects of the tapings also perform tasks at the Performance Center throughout the week. It will be interesting to see how that is treated moving forward.

Lastly, several NXT stars weren’t even filled in on the exact details of the deal ahead of time, and found out when everyone else did.
