Candice LeRae made her NXT TakeOver debut against Io Shirai this weekend at NXT TakeOver: Toronto, and while it didn’t go as planned for her, it was a special moment for her and those around her. In a brand new video released by the WWE Performance Center, LeRae’s backstage emotions were captured, as well as the emotions of her close friend, NXT superstar Tegan Nox.
“I’m so excited,” Nox said. “This is probably the match that I’ve been most excited for, not in just TakeOver: Toronto, but in the last few TakeOvers in general.” Nox seemed genuinely happy for friend, and was excited that LeRae was going to be able to show the world who she was as a wrestler. “She finally gets to show the world who she is, and how good she is, and that she’s not just one of the best female wrestlers in the world, but she’s one of the best athletes, wrestlers, whatever you want to call them, in the world.”
Unfortunately for LeRae, she was unable to come away with a win against Shirai. In the match, Shirai forced LeRae to tap out thanks to a brutal submission. Even though she lost, LeRae still came away with an incredible memory, and for herself and her friends backstage, it was just the beginning for an NXT superstar with loads of promise.
