Notes On Katsuyori Shibata & Edge After Recent Ring Activity

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer gave some insight regarding both Katsuyori Shibata and Edge after both got a little active in the ring Sunday evening, Shibata doing so during the G1 Climax finals in Budokan and Edge during the SummerSlam kickoff in Toronto.

According to Meltzer, both retired wrestlers were just simply “one-offs” and aren’t slated for any further in ring activity coming down the road. Shibata went on the attack against his former friend KENTA who went turncoat and joined The Bullet Club in a major angle Sunday while Edge speared his through Elias. Both were cleared to do so, but again, nothing more is planned for the two stars.

Meltzer noted in his Wrestling Observer Radios show Sunday evening that no one was aware of Shibata doing any sort of physical activity in the ring except select NJPW officials. As for Edge, this was the first time in eight years since The Rated R Superstar delivered a spear onto someone.

Shibata hasn’t competed since 2017 after suffering a subdural hematoma (bleeding in the brain) and Edge last went up against Alberto El Patron in 2011 at WrestleMania XXVII before retiring the next night on RAW.
