Lex Luger Discusses His Lifelong Friendship With Sting

Lex Luger recently sat down with The Hannibal TV to discuss a wide-ranging variety of topics, including his friendship with Sting. According to the legendary superstar, Luger and Sting didn’t hit it off right away, with Luger meeting Sting after he had joined the company through another acquisition.

“We weren’t [friends], he was working with a company that we merged with … UWF, and they still covered and wearing some separate shows,” he said. “We did some joint shows together, and I seen Sting in some of the magazines and stuff, but when he came in he immediately got put with Flair, got a big push and I was kind of jealous. And we’d see each other at the hotels, we started traveling the same shows together, but we didn’t hang out. And we’d actually had a couple of matches together, but I’d see him in the breakfast room, cause he’d get up, lot of guys would sleep in, but we’d get up and eat breakfast and want to go the gym.”

Luger went on to talk about how Sting had initially tried to approach him, but thanks to Luger’s status in wrestling, he was a bit too cocky. “So, we see each other sitting across the restaurant, and he had tried to approach me one time, but I was so cocky back then with the Horsemen, and he asked me how I stayed in shape on the road and stayed looking so good. He was being gracious and trying to break the ice, I was sarcastic and was taking my wrestling boots off, and never looked up and said ‘Stoli’s’ meaning vodka, and ‘peanut M&M’s,’ I gave him a smart answer.

Luger said that at the time, Sting seemed angry but the two never spoke after that, until they continued to eat breakfast and work out together. “We started going to the gym together, so you’d have breakfast and go to the gym, and just evolved into a lifelong, to this very moment … incredible friendship.”
