Kofi Kingston Talks His Journey in the WWE, What Makes Miami So Special,

As WWE SmackDown makes its way to Miami this week, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston recently sat down with the Miami Herald to discuss his journey through the WWE and how far he’s come. He also discussed what he loves about Miami, including how passionate the crowds are and what it’s like performing there.

When discussing his rise through the WWE ranks, Kingston noted that it took him a long time to even have a shot at the WWE Championship, let alone for it to be at WrestleMania.

“It took me 11+ years to even have a shot to compete in a match for the WWE Championship,” he said. “And number one, having it be like, at WrestleMania against a guy like Daniel Bryan, who was in the same position that I was in just a couple of years before…it felt amazing, the culmination of all this work that I’ve been doing for the past 11 years was paying off.” Kingston also noted that although he now has the belt, he wants to continue going against the upper echelon of WWE superstars to showcase that he’s able to defend his belt with the best of them.

When asked about what it was like to perform in Miami, Kingston praised the city, calling the city underrated int he process. “I am looking forward to coming to Miami [with SmkackDown Live],” Kingston said. “I feel like it’s an underrated market. I always look forward to going there as a WWE superstar, because they always bring the energy.

“So anybody who wants to be among good energy, you got to come to the show and check it out. It’s gonna be amazing.”
