Chris Charlton Back To Regular Role On NJPW Commentary After Fan Blowback

Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer is reporting that after much feedback from English-speaking fans of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Chris Charlton is back in his normal role as a NJPW commentator.

According to Meltzer, Charlton was unceremoniously silenced  during the Ota World Gym Shows NJPW because forces outside the company just wanted Charlton regulated to a basically a translator role rather than someone who gives input and insight. One of the main culprits of this decision is reportedly thought to be TV-Asahi due to their partnership with NJPW World with the reasoning being is that he doesn’t have the traditional voice and look that they expected from an announcer. However, after answering a question on what fans should do on the July 16 show, both NJPW and Asahi-TV got a major outpour of support for Charlton, and due to this Chris will resume his normal role in the booth starting this week.
