Drake Maverick Talks His WWE Dream Coming True, Being One Of ‘The Fortunate Ones’

On today’s Busted Open radio show on SiriusXM, WWE 24/7 champion Drake Maverick discussed his long journey to WWE and how lucky he is that his dream came true.

Maverick said he grew up having a “very British mentality,” where he thought he’d grow up in his hometown and live there the rest of his life. However, he decided to chase his dreams instead. “I really believed in this and I believed in myself. If I ever got to WWE, I’d be just flabbergasted and over the moon. As you get older, and you work for places like the British independents and IMPACT, it becomes your livelihood and you respect the business so much more when every ticket counts and … selling [merch] counts. That’s what changed my mentality when I moved to the United States.”

He then went on to say that his dreams started to become more realistic once NXT started signing ex-TNA stars. “It seemed like there was a thing where TNA talent weren’t looked by WWE,” said Maverick. “Then Samoa Joe went to NXT and Bobby Roode went to NXT, Eric Young, and you think maybe there’s an opportunity down the road. I’m one of the fortunate ones because there aren’t many spots to earn a living in this industry full-time. Just blessed.”
