Rey Mysterio On Wanting To Share The Ring With His Son Before He Retires, The Rush He Still Gets From Wrestling

Rey Mysterio recently spoke with Wrestlezone’s Kevin Kellam about his WWE career and his charity efforts with the Rey’s Fight For Autism campaign. Rey says he’s accomplished a lot in his career, but he still loves wrestling because it’s a passion that’s unrivaled to anything else he does.

“There’s no other rush or it’s almost like a drug with the passion I have for this sport. Ever since I was a kid, this always motivated me to do what I do. A lot of people go to work miserably; they don’t want to be there, they get paid poorly, they’re there eight hours or sometimes more. For me, I get to travel around the world. I get paid good money but on top of that, I get this adrenaline rush every time I step in the ring that’s incomparable to anything.”

Mysterio has made his plans clear about coming after the United States Championship once he comes back from injury. Rey said he’s eyeing a return in July from his shoulder injury, but he’d also like to get a chance to share the ring with his son, Dominick, before he officially calls it quits.

“I’m very blessed to have this second opportunity to be back with the company, and I really came back motivated on a different level. I’m focused on my physique, the way I train, the way I eat, but one of the main reasons is to be able to prepare my son to eventually step in the ring one day.

I want to have the opportunity to share the ring with him before I at least make an announcement to retire. I think that’s probably the last check on my bucket list, to be able to step in the ring with my son and be next to him when he’s feeling what I’m feeling for the last thirty years.”
