Johnny Gargano lost his NXT Championship this past weekend in a surprising loss to Adam Cole. On today’s Busted Open Radio, Tommy Dreamer defended the decision and explained why the move made sense.
“[Cole] is over,” said Dreamer. “I’ve wrestled him twice and you always saw greatness in him. He went to Ring of Honor really excelled then he went to NXT. His whole groups is an over group, a bunch of great guys and in-ring competitors. Sometimes the heel can win and just beat your champ.”
Dreamer then explained that the loss works because Gargano is better at chasing the title. “If you look at Johnny Gargano, he’s almost like teflon,” said the ECW legend. “Losses don’t mean anything to him. It’s part of his struggle. He’s so talented, and I’m not comparing him to me because he’s a much better wrestler, but he can lose every single match and he’s still over with the fans. He’s the best underdog you can have.”
