Conflicting Reports On If Sami Zayn Was Scripted To Say ‘AEW’; Moment Pulled From WWE’s YouTube Video

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer reporting on latest episode of “Wrestling Observer Radio” with Bryan Alvarez that Sami Zayn was scripted to say AEW during his segment last night on RAW, but then Bryan Alvarez mentioned that his source says that it was unscripted.

Sami said those three letters during his “electric chair” segment as he went through a fan’s Q&A and both Meltzer and Alvarez had two different stories from their sources, speculating that some of the “boys” are being worked. Quotes are below:

Meltzer: “So the AEW line was scripted, then they pulled it from the [YouTube] video afterwards, and I actually asked someone like, ‘What’s going on?” All I heard of was, ‘It was so f*cking stupid.'”

Alvarez: “I know you were told one thing, I was told that it was not scripted, okay? And I know we were both told something scripted…”

Meltzer: “Ok if it’s not scripted, the dude’s going to be suspended.”

Alvarez: “They’re going to suspend Sami Zayn?”

Meltzer: “If you go against the script on live TV and say ‘AEW’ they’re going to suspend you for sure. They’re not going to fire you because they won’t fire anybody, but they’ll suspend you guys.”

Meltzer and Alvarez continues:

Meltzer: “The person who told me would know cause it would’ve been in the meeting so it’s in the meeting -“

Alvarez: “Well the person who told me would also have been in the meeting so, either they’re messing with people.”

Meltzer: “Well the person who I’m talking to wasn’t messing with me, because he was really -“

Alvarez: “I’m not saying messing with you. I’m saying it is possible that there are things that people are being told that aren’t legitimate or are legitimate…f*cking with ‘the boys’.”

Meltzer: “Oh, you mean the idea that they’re telling the boys that it wasn’t scripted while they scripted it? Yeah I can believe that we’re going to be in an era of that. I definitely can see that. Everywhere. That we’re going to be in an era like that, which turns into an era of mistrust, I’ve been through this one before too…”

In addition, PWInsider.com is reporting several sources have told them Zayn’s line was not in the RAW script, and it was likely something he improvised. It was noted that it’s unknown how WWE officials felt about that line making it to air, but they could have censored it if they wanted, citing the show’s 15-second air delay.

WWE has posted the ‘Electric Chair’ segment on social media, but edited out the AEW line from the archived clip.
