Roman Reigns Talks Being On SmackDown, Feuding With Shane McMahon, More

WWE Superstar Roman Reigns sat down with Newsweek to talk about a variety of topics after making his full time return to WWE. Check out some of the highlights below.

On being a ‘Wildcard’ every week since it was implemented:

It’s not easy. It’s tough work. It takes special people to do this kind of stuff. I’m cut from a different fabric. I’ve always been someone who can handle this type of workload. To be honest, I feel good. We’re all human and we all want to feel needed. If I’m here to help the team and that’s my role, then that’s what I’m going to do. I was out so I wanted to get back and help the team.

On not being in contention for any titles since returning:

I’m just having fun, man. I’m just enjoying being able to create whether it’s for a championship or whatever. Getting to the top of the mountain, that’s an awesome story to tell. But with every opportunity to tell a story with a different character I get to mix it up with I have an opportunity to create something new or make something original.

On feuding with Shane McMahon:

I love it man. Shane is an authority figure but like I said Monday night he’s a spoiled rich kid. He’s out here trying to play with his dad’s toys. It’s funny to me, it’s not being in there with Vince or with Stephanie he’s a different character and we’ve all known that dude in high school. In your head you’re just like “screw this guy.” He may have thrown the party but he’s the biggest douche in the room. That’s what‘s cool, that character and we’re able to do that and we’re able to connect with that. But for me it’s fun because I did this, I grinded for mine.

On traveling to Saudi Arabia:

It gets a lot of mixed and negative reactions. The bottom line for me is, if we’re going to help promote change, if we’re going to set out to make an impact than I have to be a part of it. I’m not going to sit on the sideline and talk about how we can get there. I want to be a part of the action.

On being the ‘Poster Boy’ for WWE SmackDown:

It feels good, but there’s a lot of responsibility and there’s going to be a lot on my plate. I take that responsibility very seriously and it’s going to be a great opportunity not just for me but for other superstars and the company.
