Tony Schiavone Discusses His Return To Wrestling And His Love Of The Sport

Tony Schiavone recently joined SiriusXM’s Busted Open radio to discuss his career as a broadcaster, and specifically his time as a commentator for a variety of wrestling brands. Although he started out as a wrestling commentator in the early 80s and 90s, he has since returned to provide color commentary for Major League Wrestling, and continues to lend his voice to broadcasts for MLW Fusion.

Speaking to Busted Open radio, Schiavone noted that his love of baseball and wrestling helped him when he left the WCW. “I’ve been very fortunate that everything I’ve loved and wanted to do, I was able to do,” he said, before discussing just how competitive the business of broadcasting is now. “Back when I was doing wrestling, it was like me and Jim Ross, and Joey Styles came along after that…but now there are a lot of kids who want to get into wrestling and love it.”

When asked what he hears the most from fans, Schiavone was quick to note that most people dub him as the voice of their child. “We’re in the era of nostalgia now, where people love to go back and watch what happened back then, and listen to what happened back then, and hear everybody’s stories.” Clearly, Schiavone has a great appreciation for his fans, and how they’ve managed to keep him going throughout the years.
