Sean ‘X-Pac’ Waltman Weighs In On The Lio Rush Controversy, MVP On Why He Did His Ted Talk

X-Pac spoke about numerous topics on his podcast this week such as the Lio Rush controversy and the networks wanting to end the brand split. MVP was also a guest on the show to talk about why he decided to do a Ted Talk. See the highlights below.

On the Lio Rush controversy:

“It’s a touchy subject especially for somebody that’s not black to weigh in on. So I am going to defer to Mark Henry on this one and say I kinda agree with Mark on all of this… A lot of people are making that same amount of money and doing fine, or are getting by. Not getting rich, but when you first come into the company, it takes a while to start making money…I don’t know what the deals are there right now…It depends on the deal, if you’re getting a hundred grand but you have to pay your own rental cars and all of that, that’s a motherfucker…. He might have some legitimate gripes and also he may be conflating things with other things that shouldn’t be conflated…. Let me tell you how you can make sure you don’t get things taken care of is by going and blurting it out to a website in an interview. That’s not going to yield good results, at all. And that’s too bad. He’s a good guy, Lio, I’ve teamed with him one time in Maryland Championship Wrestling. It was great and he’s a pleasure to be around. I hope that at some point down the line he’s going to go, ‘Goddam I had my head up my ass at one point.’”

On USA / FOX wanting to end the brand split:

I don’t blame them. I don’t blame them at all . Especially if one person ends up on the Raw brand and, I am just gonna use Ronda Rousey for instance. And then Fox is like ‘We want Ronda on our show.’ or John Cena or whoever the f***.

MVP on why he did his Ted Talk and a story from his time in jail:

My ted talk was about convicted felons who have served their time but are still legally discriminated against and I talked about an issue I had personally. Being MVP somebody who is known to millions of people around the world, I spent 9 and half years in prison for robbery that I committed when I was 16 years old, and when I got out I did everything I could do redeem myself socially, I became a WWE superstar. I spent lots of time going to prisons, and juvenile detention centers to spread the message and try and be a positive role model yet when I sold my house recently, I tried to rent a house while I was deciding what I wanted to do. I had 3 applications denied back to back because I was a convicted felon. So all of these things that I’ve done specifically to try and show the world that I am a better person and improve the world that I live in, I still wear the scarlet letter of being a convicted felon.  As far as our society is concerned, you get convicted of a crime, you go to prison, you serve your time, and that’s supposed to pay your debt to society. But it’s a life sentence. You serve that forever…As a society we right off prisoners, prisoners are worthless so we dehumanize them.
